Belfast born (and still Northern Ireland resident) Liz Clarke is a singer/songwriter who is blessed with a wonderfully clear and pure voice. Her talent and passion for singing and communicating have seen her perform in the UK, USA, Germany, and all across Ireland. As well as her gift and talent for singing she has also had a number of her songs published and recorded on some leading large Christian labels.
She was presented with a Radio Mike award at the UKCMA (UK Christian Music association) Event in 2010 for her contribution to Christian music and she followed this up with being awarded folk artist of the year in 2011 by UKCMA
Liz performs Celtic infused contemporary music in which traces of her Irish roots and tinges of folk can be found, but she is not afraid to explore other styles within her work. She has released several well received independent albums (and singles) and her last independently released album (to date), The Dream (which is available for our shop page) was recorded in Nashville and consisted of 10 original self penned songs plus two of her favourite old celtic hymns, Be Thou My Vision, and When I Survey The Wondrous Cross. The album featured guest drummer Chester Thompson, most famous for his many years as drummer with mega band “Genesis” for their live stadium packed gigs.
For her debut Plankton album Path Of Dreams (Liz’s fifth album) Liz collaborated with talented producer and multi-instrumentalist Paul McIlwaine, and unusually the album was created completely online from their respective locations, they didn’t actually meet each other face to face during the recording process! The 13 tracks contained within the album are composed of various styles, from dance with a hint of Bhangra on the opening track, to pop and onto stripped back acoustic tracks. Liz and Paul experimented with different styles throughout the album but as one critic put it “… however, when it’s just Liz’s voice and Paul’s guitar, something quite magical happens”.
2012 brought another first for Liz as she spent the first half of the year touring around theatres the length and breadth of the UK as part of the wonderful “A Celtic Dream” stage production, wowing audiences with her spine tingling renditions of classic Irish songs. It was the fulfilment of a long held ambition as well as a rewarding (and exhausting!) experience.
Alongside her solo projects, Liz has collaborated with her good friend and fellow Plankton artist VIVIENNE NEVILLE on some beautiful Christmas music. As well as producing an initial EP and 3 digital singles, all of their work together is contained on the stunning Plankton album Emmanuel. To say this album got rave critical reviews would be an understatement! Respected UK CCM website, Louder Than The Music, named the album as one their top 12 recommended Christmas music albums of 2012!
In the summer of 2013 Liz joined Vivienne Neville and US singers (and friends) Jackie Morris Bates and Mary-Kathryn to record the charity single ‘What A Friend We Have In Jesus’. The single was released digitally Worldwide in early 2014.
One thing Liz has done since the release of ‘Path of Dreams’ is, from time to time, write and record with producer/multi-instrumentalist Paul Mcilwaine. These sessions were done primarily for fun and they produced songs (both lyrically and stylistically) that were different from what they’d done together before – everything from blues to their own interpretations of Irish folk tunes. Early in 2014, some of these tracks came to Plankton Records’ attention and following some quick discussions it was decided to make an album’s worth of these recordings available. In May 2014, the album ‘Destiny’ was released – not perhaps a normal Liz ‘project’ album, this great album is, according to Keith Dixon of Plankton “…viewed as a sort of ‘B sides and rarities’ type release”.
Autumn 2014 saw Liz contributing 3 songs to a new compilation album ‘What A Friend We Have’ which also featured 3 solo songs each Vivienne Neville, Jackie Morris Bates and Mary-Kathryn. 1 of the tracks Liz contributed was from an earlier independent EP which had long been unavailable and another had only been available as a single. Also included on the album was the ‘What A Friend We Have In Jesus’ track that they had recorded together. The album was released Worldwide by Plankton and is available as a digital release only.
However, the most important event of 2014 occurred on February 14th in Las Vegas when Liz married her valentine Ian Moffatt. Liz summed up the day as “Truly magical”. From that day, Liz now performs under the name Liz Clarke Moffatt.
Understandably, on the musical front, Liz took some time out following her wedding to start her new life with Ian and settle into her new home etc. But as 2015 has progressed Liz has started to perform more solo gigs and in November she will be touring in the North of the UK. This will be followed by a Christmas tour with Vivienne.
Liz has continued writing new songs and pursuing a number of musical ventures, both as a solo artist and performing as part of a group
