The Darn Funk Orchestra

The Darn Funk Orchestra, as both a band and music project, began back in 2006. It was the brainchild and long held dream of professional drummer James “Jimmy” Darn. With just a few fresh and original songs to their name and a handful of covers in their repertoire the band started their life as a live unit performing at festivals, clubs, pubs and weddings around the country.

They swiftly gained popularity with their unique performances of classic jazz funk hits and their own original sound and songs too –  what they dub ‘Darn good songs’ – inspired by their experiences of life, their musical heroes and also the Almighty Himself.

After several different member combinations, the Darn Funksters are now a fully-fledged band of five with Jimmy as principal songwriter. They have written a full album’s worth of original material, all of which come to the album straight out of their fun and funky live sets. With a stunning horn section, a tight rhythm section, juicy guitars, catchy grooves, and colourful jazz arrangements all combined with lyrics to make you think these 12 songs are all top notch. The uptempo numbers will get you up and dancing!

From their ‘funk psalms’ – an alternative take on familiar biblical texts that sees scripture in a whole new way, to their song menu seasoned with the flavour of life, the band invite you to get down, get funky and get yourself some soul food.

Watch out for the Darn Funk Orchestra at a venue or festival near you
